About AIGMS™
Practical governance for real organisational AI use
AIGMS™ (Artificial Intelligence Governance Management System) helps organisations identify how they use AI, assign clear accountability, apply proportionate Safeguards and retain evidence of the decisions they make.
Why AIGMS™ was created
AI often enters an organisation through ordinary working practices before formal governance is in place. People start using tools to draft content, analyse information, support decisions, automate tasks or interact with customers. The organisation may benefit from that use without having a reliable record of where AI is operating or who is responsible for it.
AIGMS™ was created to close that practical gap. It gives managers a structured way to record AI Activities, understand possible consequences, select proportionate Safeguards and build evidence through normal operation.
It is designed primarily for UK small and medium-sized organisations. The language and working methods are intended for competent managers who need a usable governance system rather than a technical or academic model.
How the approach works
AIGMS™ starts with visibility. Each AI Activity is recorded in the Activity Register and assigned to an Accountable Person. Consequence Profiling then considers potential effects across the five Consequence Domains. The highest domain score determines the Consequence Rating.
The organisation selects Safeguards which reflect that rating and the circumstances of the AI Activity. Training, review and evidence requirements support continued operation rather than a single assessment exercise.
The resulting Governance Evidence Pack brings together the records needed to show what the organisation has identified, decided, implemented, reviewed and improved.
Who created and maintains AIGMS™
AIGMS™ was independently created in the United Kingdom by a practitioner whose background includes an LLB, MIIRSM membership and professional experience across occupational safety, information technology and information security.
That combination shaped the practical design of AIGMS™. It treats governance as work which must be assigned, recorded, checked and improved inside an organisation. It does not treat governance as a collection of broad principles which sit apart from day-to-day decisions.
AIGMS™ is maintained independently. Feedback, implementation experience, legal and regulatory developments and evidence from review activity may trigger controlled changes.
Independent position: AIGMS™ is a governance management system rather than a standard. It is not issued, approved or endorsed by a regulator. It does not determine legal compliance or replace legal advice.
How changes are controlled
Governance content must remain traceable as it develops. AIGMS™ uses documented controls so users and professional readers can understand which material applies and why it changed.
- Version control: controlled documents carry a version and publication date.
- Scheduled review: the methodology and time-sensitive content have planned review points.
- Change triggers: material legal, regulatory, operational or programme developments can bring a review forward.
- Change records: controlled releases record what changed and when the change took effect.
- Claims control: public statements are checked against an evidence-based Claims Register.
- Implementation evidence: practical experience can inform improvement without changing an earlier customer contract retrospectively.
Implementation and future verification remain separate
Organisations can use AIGMS™ without applying for any external status. Buying or implementing AIGMS™ does not grant AIGMS™ Verified status, guarantee verification readiness or create a favourable assessment outcome.
The AIGMS™ Verification Programme remains in controlled pilot development. Free initial business applications for the Founding Verification Cohort are open. The form accepts summary information only. Evidence receipt, payment, Entry Checks, assessment, status decisions, Status IDs, register entries and mark use remain closed until their separate controls are approved. Read the public programme boundaries and apply.
A future applicant would not need to buy an AIGMS™ package merely to be eligible. Equivalent evidence may be accepted under the Scheme Rules approved for the programme at that time.

AIGMS™ welcomes constructive discussion with professional bodies, membership organisations, researchers and sector groups working on responsible AI adoption and assurance.
The intended contribution is an implementation perspective. Relevant areas include organisational accountability, competence, information access, proportionate evidence and separation between support and later assessment decisions.
Engagement is sought for professional discussion, evidence contribution and shared learning. It is not presented as a request for endorsement.
